Marketing a website.
Printing 5000 glossy brochures and putting them in a cupboard will not bring you any new business. Neither will getting a website built and not marketing it bring you any new business.
On-line marketing.
- E-mail website masters at sites that relate to your company, and ask for a link exchange.
- List your website address in every e-mail signature on every e-mail you send. Encourage all staff members to do the same.
- PROMOTE YOUR OWN BUSINESS WHEN E-MAILING! Do not promote xtra, Clear, or Hotmail's business when e-mailing. Use your own address, e.g. info@mybusiness.co.nz not info@xtra.co.nz.
- When you've made a major change or addition to your site, send out a press release via e-mail to your regular clients.
Off-line marketing.
- Add your website address to all literature and publications (business cards, letter head, newsletters, fax cover sheets, etc).
- Announce the launch of your site, as well as major changes to your site in your printed advertising, radio advertising, or by word of mouth to all your clients.
- Make sure everyone who answers your company's main phone line knows the website address, and knows what information is available via the website so they can make appropriate referrals.
- Add the website address to your company's voice mail message.
Keep visitors coming back.
Don't just market to new visitors; market to return visitors as well. There are a number of ways to do this:
- Update your web site at least once a month. There is always something new you can tell people about your business. And consider a full rebuild of your website either annually or bi-annually.
- Make sure ALL departments are using the web site to communicate, not just the marketing staff.
- Create a subscription-based e-mail newsletter to promote updates to your web site.
